I'm Kevin Davis. I got my first job as a carpenter's helper in 1979 when
I was 17 years old. Since then I've put myself into every environment that a
carpenter could work in. The first few years I specialized in framing(that's
the skeleton/structure) houses and apartment buildings. During the early years
before things got so specialized we often completed all exterior carpentry.
That's the siding, boxing in the overhang, and trimming around doors and windows.
During these years I worked on hundreds of houses and over 35 apartment buildings.
When I was 24 I decided to go into commercial construction. In this field
I learned all about foundations and concrete forming. I also learned the fine
art of interior finish carpentry. Some of the jobs I worked on were Charlotte
Apparel Center, Presbyterian Medical Tower, renovation of the old Belk Mansion
which is now the Presbyterian Administration Building. I also worked on the
City County Govt. Center Bldg., Carolina Place Mall, Discovery Place Planetarium,
the I-77 bridge over Arrowood Rd., and the Hwy 16 Water Treatment plant. I did
commercial carpentry for aprox. six years.
I felt it was time to go back into residential work. I wanted to learn remodeling
and renovations. I felt that my commercial experience would give me an edge.
I met up with a real estate investor who bought dilapidated houses in Wilmore
and fixed them up for resale. On six houses I did everything but plumbing and
electrical. We jacked up sagging floors when needed. We gutted most of the houses
modifying the floor plans. We vaulted ceilings when we could to give the feeling
of more space. On one house we turned the closet into a bathroom by tearing
the walls out and bringing a dormer through the roof. I also worked on two of
his properties in Myers Park. After that I decided to go back into framing and
after a couple of years of running jobs building custom homes, I became a framing
contractor and hired my own crew.
After a year I decided to go back to school to get computer literate. This
greatly enhanced my business and marketing skills. I launched myself as a master
carpenter for hire. I went on to expand into a renovation company and handyman service.
And here I am....
